Happy Humpday! Plan your escape, here are our picks for the week ending 20th October.
Without doubt, you have got to get yourself to The Brewery tonight. Beaten Bodies are launching their new single “Shoot My Birds”, and are playing a FREE ENTRY show with This Mess and Tim Bowen. You can also get cheap pizza, cheap jugs of beer and enjoy the benefits of daylight savings in the beer garden over looking the beach.
For the metal lovers, Tasmania’s Taberah is coming to Dicey Riley’s Hotel as part of the release tour for their second album “Necromancer”. Joining them are Metreya and Temtris. This is another free entry show, and from (hazy) memory, pints of Guiness are stupidly cheap.
For those of you looking for something a little less loud, Melbourne’s Lowlakes are hitting Rad Bar in Wollongong. This 4-piece produce some seriously beautiful, swirling music. Triple J’s Dom Alessio doesn’t seem to mind them:
“This isn’t a sound you hear everyday! Serene and glacial. If you put Antony Hegarty and Sigur Ros in an Icelandic room in the heady days of ’90s shoegaze, it might sound like this. Rating 4/5″
They will be joined by This Mess and J.Rojas.
Head into the Northern Suburbs on Saturday to see Brisbane’s Dubmarine. Described as a “high-powered, high energy, dub and dancehall sub bass vessel”, this 8-piece have a pretty impressive reputation as an explosive live band. Tickets are $12 from heritagehotel.com.au
The Den has gone punk. From 6pm you can catch Mangrove Jack, Smasheddy Bash, Hoon and Slew. Tickets are $5 on the door, beers are $3.50 until 7.30 and cocktails are $9 all night. A fitting farewell to the weekend; no one says goodbye to Sunday happily.
